Skylar {Two Years Old}

 Skylar came in recently for her birthday club session.  She was so excited to wear her new teal jacket for her portraits.  Such a sweet smile!

I recently headed up to Nations Financial Group in Cedar Rapids to photograph head shots of one of their new employees.  I've had the pleasure of capturing head shots for their business for the past three years.  It's always fun getting to meet the new members of their group.

Jason + Emily {Engaged}

At the end of March, I had the pleasure of having Emily and Jason in the studio for their engagement session.  They were great to work with.  I had a lot of fun using my new sequin backdrop during their session.  The bold colors in their outfits seemed a perfect fit with the sparkles.

Our 2016 wedding season is in full swing, and we only have a very few dates left available.  We have another great year filled with wonderful couples.  We know we've said it before, but we are so blessed.  We really do have the best clients ever!

Jace {Cake Smash}

This little guy had a lot of fun munching on his cake.  He wasn't too sure about it at first, but once he realized it was a tasty treat, he had a blast.

Al + Jill {Engaged}

In the beginning of March, I met with Al and Jill at the Blank Park Zoo in Des Moines.  Really, does it get more fun than a zoo engagement session?  I had such a great time working with them both at this great location.  I'm excited to go back and photograph their wedding at the zoo this June!

Ryan + MItzi {Engaged}

It was a windy day at Lake MacBride when I met with Ryan and Mitzi for their engagement session.  Early March is not known for its calm weather.  Thankfully, the rain in the forecast stayed away and the temperature was a fair bit above freezing.  The clouds lent themselves to some gorgeous even lighting for Ryan and Mitzi's session.

Jace {One Year Old}

It was so much fun having Jace in the studio for his one year portraits!  I photographed his parents' wedding a few years ago and was thrilled when they contacted me to capture portraits of their adorable little guy.

For their grand entrance, not only were the wedding party announce, but so were Joanna's parents and Jordan's parents.  It was so much fun to see the joy on their faces as they made their way into the reception hall.

Vintage, Love, Rentals, & annessi

This afternoon, I had the pleasure of meeting up again with a good friend of mine, Cynthia Betts of Vintage, Love, Rentals, & annessi while I was in the Des Moines area for an engagement session.  Not only was it wonderful to get a chance to chat and catch up, this was the first time I'd been able to check out their store.  Love it!!  So glad I had my camera with me!

Imaging Images

This winter has been busy, between keeping up with sessions, weddings and editing; as well as keeping up with things in my personal life after the loss of my father.  So here we are, several months later, and I'm just finally finding time to share some of the portraits I was able to capture of the beautiful models at Imaging USA this year.

Jordan + Joanna {Wedding: Part 1)

On February 13th, I headed to the gorgeous Hotel Blackhawk in Davenport for the wedding of Jordan and Joanna.  I had not had the pleasure of photographing and event in the hotel before and I can honestly say I hope I get to go back there soon!  GORGEOUS!  Beyond the location, Jordan and Joanna's wedding was stunning from start to finish.

Michael + Dannielle {Engaged}

Towards the end of February, I met up with Michael and Dannielle in the Ped Mall area of Iowa City.  They were back in town for a brief visit to family in the midst of a big move, so it was the perfect opportunity to capture their engagement portraits.

Unplugging Your Wedding

 I love my phone.  I really do.  I love being able to stay connected even when I'm out and about, but there are times it needs to be put away.  We have a rule in our house, no technology at the table or during family time.  It is so important to be present in the moment, not only for ourselves to build memories but to show our respect and love for those around us.

Recently, little Miss Adria came in for her Birthday Club session.  Along with her, she brought her doll, Meredith.  So adorable!

Thomas + Lisa {Wedding: Part 2}

 After the ceremony, we headed outside for a few rather chilly, but fun portraits before heading to the reception venue, the Iowa City Sheraton.  I love the alley behind the church.  The long block window was a gorgeous backdrop for portraits.  A big kudos to the bridesmaids for braving the cold and ice for these portraits!

My "Why"

Recently, I was tasked with digging deep and really finding my "why."  I didn't have to spend hours looking deep within to find the hidden meaning of why photography and portraits are so dear to my heart and light a passion in my soul.

Jaxson {Newborn}

On New Year's Eve, I got to spend part of my day with this sweet little guy.  Jaxson was so tiny and adorable.  He wasn't super interested in sleeping during his session, but I think we still got some great shots.

On January 2, we headed to St. Mary's in Iowa City to capture the gorgeous wedding day of Thomas and Lisa.  When we arrived, the air was crisp and chilly outside the church.  Inside, the sanctuary was busy as final touches were being finished.

On a chilly afternoon at the end of December, I met with Brian and Chelsea for their engagement session.  It's been a while since I've had the opportunity to capture a winter engagement session.  I love how the portraits turned out!

 We loved Mason and Bridgette's late November wedding at the Marriott in Coralville.  It was a beautiful event and the couple was surrounded by so much love, not only for each other but the love their family and guests had for the beautiful couple was wonderful.

Mason + Bridgette {Wedding: Part 1}

On the last Saturday in November, I headed to the Coralville Marriott to capture Mason and Bridgette's beautiful wedding day.  When I arrived, my assistant and I headed up to where the bridal party were getting ready for the day to capturing the moments as they put on their finishing touches.

The Harris Cousins

In early December, the Harris cousins came into the studio for a mini-session.  This group was full of energy and great smiles!

Lance {Newborn}

Let's start the new year off right, with this handsome little guy.  Lance was such a sweet little guy during his session.  He was so awake and alert, but calm. Seriously, how can you not fall in love with this adorable little face!

Back Into the Blogging World

 

I'm not sure if life will be normal again for a while, but I'm back in the office and playing catch up.  I am still struggling to deal with the loss of my father and the responsibility of handling his estate is on my shoulders.  As much as I'd like to curl up and pretend this is not happening, I know for a fact my father, who was one of my biggest supporters, would want me to continue to put my heart and soul into the business I love.

I've been a little M. I. A. as of late.  If you follow my blog or Facebook you probably have noticed my absence.  I have been gone from updates and blogging since the end of November.  Those that have published during the past few weeks were scheduled in advance.

Imaging 2016

I am so excited!  In just a few days, I'll be heading to Atlanta for PPA's Imaging 2016.  This will be my first large photography conference.  I cannot wait to go and learn.  I will be out of the office January 9-13, so please be patient if I'm not a quick to respond to emails or phone calls.
