Thomas + Lisa {Wedding: Part 1}

On January 2, we headed to St. Mary's in Iowa City to capture the gorgeous wedding day of Thomas and Lisa.  When we arrived, the air was crisp and chilly outside the church.  Inside, the sanctuary was busy as final touches were being finished.
To begin the day, we started with some detail shots.  I love the image above of Lisa's bouquet on the red carpet.  So simple, but so beautiful.  Her dress was lovely as well.  The crystal accents in the lace were a perfect hint of shimmer.

While her dress just had hints of shimmer, her shoes were quite the opposite.  No hints there, just some gorgeous full out bling.  Love it!

Lisa was amazingly organized and brought along a copy of her invite.  I love when couples remember this!  It adds even more when we are capturing the details of the day.

Once we were finished with the details, Lisa got into her dress with the help of her older sister, the matron of honor.  You could see the quiet excitement on her face as everything began to come together.

At the front of the church, Lisa and Thomas shared their first look.  It was a beautiful moment.  After a few moments, we left the sanctuary to give them some time together.

After a few portraits at the front of the church, we headed into the pews fr a few more artistic shots.  I love, love, love the portrait above.

When the bridal party had all gathered, we began their formal portraits.  The reds and grays of their outfits fit perfectly with the church.  Also, I loved the contrast of the white bridesmaids bouquets against their red dresses and Lisa's bold, red bouquet against her bridal gown.

The family portraits followed the bridal party.  All of their family members were so great to work with.

In the window of time before guests began to arrive, we had some fun with the bridal party in the pews.

The balcony had some lovely stained glass.  I love the images of Thomas and Lisa silhouetted in front of it.  Once we had finished we the portraits in the balcony, guests began to arrive and we started preparing for the ceremony to begin.

As Lisa's father gave her hand to Thomas, they all embraced each other and had a quiet moment together.  It was so beautiful.

The ceremony was officiated by the Catholic minister from UNI, where Lisa and Thomas attended college.  Through their year at UNI, they spent much of their time assisting with services and getting to know their priest.  It was fun to hear him tell stories of his time spent with Lisa and Thomas as he watched them grow and evolve, not only as a couple, but as individuals as well.

Towards the end of the ceremony, the priest asked the congregation to join hands as they prayed.  Seeing them move out into the aisle, not allowing the space to divide them, it truly showed their unified love for Lisa and Thomas.  It was wonderful.

Check back soon for more from Thomas and Lisa's beautiful Iowa City wedding day!
