Towards the end of February, I met up with Michael and Dannielle in the Ped Mall area of Iowa City. They were back in town for a brief visit to family in the midst of a big move, so it was the perfect opportunity to capture their engagement portraits.
I hadn't had the pleasure of meeting these two in person before their session, as they were both stationed in Germany with the USAF. I had such a great time finally meeting them and get to know them both better.
Michael and Dannielle met while stationed overseas and fell in love. From that moment on, they started their lives together. Such a beautiful love story!
For their session, we wandered the alleys of the Ped Mall and downtown Iowa City. Sure, it sounds a little weird to be wandering strange alleys to find great locations for engagement portraits, but I love the hidden nooks and crannies in Iowa City. I think this spiral staircase is still one of my fave locations.
The weather was beautiful. Impressively warm for late February. The afternoon light was perfect. I think the light streaming through the metal staircase in the images above is gorgeous and the painted part of the wall frames them brilliantly. I could not have asked for a better setting for this lovely couple.
After downtown, we headed over to the Coralville Marriott. I have photographed in and around the Coralville Marriott many, many times. I love the natural light that spills in from all of their large windows. Each time I photograph portraits there I challenge myself to do something new and different, try a new angle or find a new location.
Michael and Dannielle are such a sweet couple and I loved working with them. I'm looking forward to the wedding this October!
