Engagement Portraits {Why I Love Them}

Yesterday evening, I headed to Clear Lake, Iowa for Kenny and Erin's engagement session.  During the somewhat lengthy car ride home I was thinking about how much I love engagement sessions.  Engagement sessions are such a wonderful thing, not just for the couple to have amazing images to share with friends and family, announce their engagement in the paper, or to display at their wedding, but for me as well.  I get the opportunity to get to know the couple before the wedding day.  To know some tricks to get them to relax and smile or to know how they relax into each others arms.  For example, I learned today that apparently Kenny is a fan of knock-knock jokes.  I also learned I know very few good ones.  :)  This relationship is such a wonderful thing to build before the wedding.

Plus, I arrive on the wedding day knowing them and their personalities.  I'm not there to photograph a bride and groom, yes that is the role they are in on that day, but I am there to capture, for example, Erin and Kenny.  I feel connected to them, and hopefully they feel connected to me as well.  This connection makes the wedding day far more relaxed from the beginning.

Have I mentioned how much I love my job?  Seriously.  I get to meet so many amazing people I would not otherwise have the opportunity to meet and capture some of the most important events in their lives.  I love getting to know my clients.  I get to be surrounded by people who are madly in love.  Is there anything better?
